Ninth- and Tenth-Grade Seminars

的 Ninth- and Tenth-Grade Seminars meet once per week and are opportunities for fun, hands-on learning without the added pressures of grades or homework. Ninth graders rotate through trimesters of 健康 & 健康, Foundations in Language & 逻辑, 文化能力 – all taught by bbin娱乐平台 faculty. Tenth graders, in addition to continuing with a 健康 & 健康组及 Introduction to Research, will choose either a hands-on Python & 机器学习 course in collaboration with BU’s 软件 & Application Innovation Lab 或者两者结合 工程 & 创业 波士顿大学的课程 工程 Product Innovation Center (史诗)和 Innovate@BU’s 建立实验室. 的se themes were chosen based on their broad applicability to adolescents and their importance in preparing students for their futures as responsible, productive citizens in society. 

的 健康 & 健康 unit offers engaging lessons on physical and emotional health and wellbeing with special attention to topics of relevance to today’s teenagers, including nutrition; mental health; sexual health; social interactions; and social media and technology use. 

Foundations in Language and 逻辑 introduces students to concepts of written argument and style. This unit aims to develop an early awareness in students of words as both fun and powerful, of the ways in which language and logic are working on us every waking hour.

It is critical that bbin娱乐平台 students learn to be thoughtful, 通知, culturally competent citizens in an increasingly diverse world. 的 文化能力 unit provides a chance to discover our common humanity through active, experiential workshops exploring identity, 同理心, 刻板印象和偏见, the eight core cultural identifiers.

In Introduction to Research students will learn a number of skills that are transferable across disciplines and bear fruit throughout their academic careers: finding reliable and relevant sources; navigating research databases; reading journal articles and other academic literature. 除了技能, the content of that literature will also support their journey, as it will focus on how we learn. 

In Python and 机器学习, students will work with researchers from BU’s 软件 & Application Innovation Lab to learn the fundamentals of coding through interactive lessons in Python and doing hands-on work in machine learning.

的 工程 & 创业 leverages two partnerships at BU. 一半的单位, students will learn the basics of fabrication at BU’s 15,000-square-foot makerspace, the 工程 Product Innovation Center (EPIC). 在另一节课中, students will work with mentors at Innovate@BU, the University’s innovation and entrepreneurship center, practicing design thinking and applying that methodology to real-world problems.
